Following on from my Social Media for Lawyers and Trainee Solicitors seminar on 28 November, I was invited to present to Diploma in Legal Practice students at University of the Year 2012, Strathclyde University on Wednesday 5th December 2012.
The slides are above which provide a note of some of the key ideas and the live tweets from before, during and after the event are at the foot of this page.
The background to the presentation was as follows:-
“Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are becoming an integral part of the way we communicate.” (Law Society of Scotland: Advice and information for the legal profession http://goo.gl/acdvG
) Many of you may be familiar with using social media in your personal and social life. However, social media can also be a great environment in which you can observe and link into networks with many law firms and lawyers who use social media in their professional life.
The presentation will be given by Gavin Ward. Gavin is highly regarded in his field of social media management. He trained as a lawyer and qualified with Maclay Murray & Spens LLP. Gavin therefore has particular knowledge of the importance of social media for legal businesses and for legal practice students. This is an excellent opportunity to tap into Gavin’s skills, knowledge, experience and expertise.
The presentation will help you understand why social media is important as a lawyer. You will also learn how social media can benefit you, as a legal practice student, in developing a responsible and professional reputation.”
